Keratoconus
Keratoconus is a progressive eye condition in which the normally round cornea becomes thin and gradually bulges into a cone-like shape. This irregular curvature prevents light from focusing correctly on the retina, resulting in blurred and distorted vision, glare, halos, and increased sensitivity to light. As the condition progresses, glasses often no longer provide sufficient visual correction due to the irregular shape of the cornea.
Specialized contact lenses play a key role in improving visual performance for people with keratoconus. By creating a smooth and regular optical surface over the irregular cornea, contact lenses can significantly enhance visual acuity, reduce distortions, and improve overall clarity and contrast sensitivity. Many patients achieve a much higher level of visual quality with contact lenses compared to glasses.
SwissLens offers multiple lens options for keratoconus, including both soft and RGP lenses, providing customized solutions tailored to individual corneal shapes and visual needs.
